PROFESSIONAL YACHT RACING
Rob started yacht racing in the mini-cup class on Southampton Water in the 1970's. In the 1980's family commitments meant racing in the Old Gaffer series plus club events but in 1992 his switch to professional sailing as a career, enabled him to take part in more and more national and international events.
Working most often as Skipper, but sometimes as Tactician or Helm, he has raced in many regattas from Cowes through Poole, Weymouth, Torbay, Dartmouth and Cork to the BVI and Antigua. Offshore races include Trans-Atlantic trips and seven Fastnets plus countless cross-channel RORC and JOG races.
Many of the events have been on his IOR 50, Hope & Glory/UNICEF, but since 2005 he has worked consistently on the Solent corporate racing series in Sigma 38's and First 40.7's.
